National Science Day is celebrated on February 28 every year across India. The National Science Day commemorates the invention of the ‘Raman Effect’ by the great Indian physicist, Sir ChandrasekharaVenkata Raman. Sir Raman, on this same date, had invented the Raman Effect in the year 1928. For his contribution in the field of science, Sir Raman was awarded with the Nobel Prize in the Physics in the year 1930. By celebrating this day as National Science Day, we show our dignity and respect to the famous Indian physicist for his contribution in the field of Science.
KMV has celebrated National Science week with the theme “Integrated Approach in S&T for a Sustainable Future”. Department of Sciences have organized several events from Feb 21-28, 2022 to celebrate power of science and technology. In this regardP.G. Department of Physics organizeda guest lecture cum workshop which was conducted by Mrs.PragyaNopany, Founder & Co-ordinator, BVN –IAPT Anveshika. Workshop was focused on developing creative science integration strategies and the need to make science more fun and meaningful in the classrooms.Mrs.Nopany presented short 2-5 minutes videoswhich helped students imbibe complex principles of Physics easily by critical observation. Short videos presented by Mrs.Nopany were based on simple phenomenon’s viz. force, spectra, magnetic field etc. those were supported by videos on cutting of guava, Rainbow, magnets etc. Her method of conducting the workshop was based on the theme “PehleDikhao,PhirBatao”, which created curiosity among students to know principle behind the experiment. The workshop facilitated students to learn more, explore more and contribute more meaningfully to society. Overall the workshop was very interactive that was successful in making concepts of Physics easier to understand for students.
Another Inter-College event “Chem-Innovesta-2022” was organized to manifest creativity and imagination of students for chemical experiments using things easily available at home. The goal of the competition is to encourage creativity and disruptiveness of smart home solution ideas, thoughtfulness and depth of explanation and feasibility of things. Total 155 students and 15 faculties participated across the country. Their knowledge was assessed by various fun quizzes using menti and jamboard apps. Students and faculties participated in an online quiz with full enthusiasm and zeal. All the participants received e-certificates.
Two National Level quiz competitions were organized to celebrate ‘International Day of Women & Girls in Science-2022’ and 175th Birthday of Thomas Alva Edison. Quizzes were conducted in the online mode in which more than 500 students as well as faculty members participated from our entire nation. In this weekonline powerpointand poster presentation competition werealso organized on the theme of National Science Day-2022. Various online competitions were organised such as Choreography, Rangoli, Poster making, Explora vision- write up and Brainstorm fun quizzes using kahoot app.
Professor (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Principal KanyaMahaVidyalaya, Jalandhar appreciated the contribution of the students and congratulated the faculty of the Sciences for organizing one week event.Dr.Dwivedi said that An understanding of research principles and a scienceand technologically literate community are essential for investment in new and technologically high value added services, and therefore critical to innovation and wealthcreation.
